  • Crash on start

    I am geting a consistent crash on start - Canvas 4.0.2, Mac OSX 10.13.4. I see the splash screen briefly, sometimes the blue progress bar shows some small progress but mostly not, then its gone. The crash report is copied in part below - more in the attachment. Canvas has been performing so well, but this is a show-stopper, and I can't open it at all. I have tried double-clicking on the Canvas application, double-clicking on a Canvas document, double-clicking with a modifier key (shift, option, control, command) - all the same crash. I have experienced this over the past month or so, but usually it will open in the end - today its refusing. Any pointers appreciated.

    Have you submitted it to ACD tech support? https://acdsystems.desk.com/customer...tal/emails/new. Have you restarted the computer? You can try deleting the Canvas prefs; go to the Finder, hold the option key and click the Go menu, then in the list that drops down, choose Library, let go of the option key and click the Application Support Folder, then the ACD Systems folder, then grab the Canvas Draw folder and throw it in the trash and empty the Trash.

      Thanks for the pointers. I have now submitted it to the tech support link (I didn't know it). I can't restart my computer - stuff running - but I did delete the Canvas Draw folder as instructed - no difference. I will try restarting as soon as I can.

        A vast majority of the time restarting the computer fixes problems. As an IT person for Mac in the past, I've learned to shutdown my computer every night so that all the little anomalies that become big ones gets eliminated.

          Restarting indeed fixed this - thanks. Not a solution I like - its Unix, not classic OS6 or the like, and shutting down is something I do only a few times a year - and after using Canvas since it was a Desk Accessory, I hope this doesn't become a new standard. However, to moderate my whining, Canvas Draw for Mac is working so well, and its so good to have Canvas back!

            In my experience shutting down is a requirement at least once a week, UNIX is not infallible, especially with MacOS sitting on top of it.
