Missing Features I Expected...

I am still on version 9 for Windows Vista, and I like it very much. But that PC won't last forever, and now I do everything on a MAC. So I agree with others as to the speed. It took forever to make thumbnails, and behaved very strangely!

But what is an absolute deal killer for me is there is NO IMAGE BASKET. That is what makes Acdsee great! I won't buy unless that is functional. We want the basic things. A folder structure on the left, thumbnail representations on the right and an image basket below. What's so hard about that? I , and I am not alone, do not care for non-destructive editing and other distractions.

I was pleased to see that there was a Mac version of ACDSee, as I need a photo management app that works on a transparent folder structure, not a closed database like iPhoto. However, when I downloaded the trial version, I see that it can't connect to my iPhone to transfer the photos. After running across all the other issues documented here, I'm moving on to something else.

Seriously, I was minutes away from buying this software due to ACDSee's reputation, and an expectation that it would perform basic tasks in a straightforward manner. What a disappointment.

Go to Adobe Elements. Has 100x more functions and no performance issues. New versions come out regularly, cheap. $79 at Costco and you get both Mac and Win versions in the same box.
Huge support community, get answers quickly. Never problems with new OSX releases,

ACDSee pro mac needs to be rewritten from scratch. It breaks every time a new version of OSX is released and usually waiting months for fixes... Do yourself a favour and give up on it now. If you still want to use ACDSee Pro/Ultimate I suggest installing VMware fusion: http://www.vmware.com/ca/en/products/fusion and install the windows version. ACDSee needs to hire some competent mac developers to rewrite the code & get it caught up with the Windows version feature wise...it's not worth paying a penny for the OSX version.

Amen to that! This app has had problems since it first came out about 8 years ago. It's ancient junk code. Everyone insist on a refund and get their attention. They will refund you but they don't like it.

Jason, I know what you mean. ACDSee Mac feels like an orphaned child. The program has much potential but that potential is crippled by lack of support, updates, etc. I have no experience with the Windows version so will refrain commenting on that program. Myself, I have basically moved to Corel's AfterShot Pro 2 and Darktable software for the bulk of my post-processing. Hoping to see the ACDSee Mac version rise from the ashes and deliver users the quality they deserve.

I'm in a similar boat. Recently moved from ACDSee Windows to ACDSee Mac and have been very underwhelmed. I'm now considering moving make to ACDSee Windows and running it within a virtual container on the Mac which seems ridiculous - but may be less pain that the Mac version.

Also interested in other views comparing the Windows and Mac versions of ACDSee.

I'm new to OS X, so maybe some of these are technical limitations that ACD Systems can't work around, but:

- Why isn't there an option to edit an image on the menu of an image?
- Why is there apparently no Edit mode in the app? There's develop, but everything is made far more complex than it needs to be; cropping or resizing is so incredibly clumsy compared to ACDSee on Windows where I can do this function in 5 seconds
- Why are so many core functions buried as Batch modes whereas on Windows they are in Edit mode or higher up? I'm talking things like File renaming, time-stamp changing, etc.
- Why is there no Quick View tool? On a new fall 2015 5K iMac with a 4 Ghz CPU, an SSD, and 32 GB of RAM waiting for the full program to start up is a bit slow when all I want to do is see an image full screen
- When it does start up, and I'm looking at the image, why does it not allow me to arrow-key through the other images in that folder? I have to go back to the Manage tab, double-click on one of images, THEN the view tab will populate with the other images for me to move through. Kludgy.

As a 15+ year user of ACDSee products and generally a huge fan of ACDSee apps, ACDSee Pro for the Mac is a huge let-down. It's almost like it was developed by a completely different set of people who didn't look at the way other ACDSee products work...? I'm glad I only paid $25 for it, because I'm already hunting for other apps to replace it. :-(

And since this is my third post here without any response from ACD Systems, I get the sense this is somewhat of an abandoned product that, other than some bug fixes, is all but dead...
