  • Restoring old color photos

I have a lot of old color photos. Will ACDSee Pro restore/correct color, fading, etc. without a lot of fiddling on my part, perhaps with some presets? The manual adjustments with histograms and the like are just beyond my capabilities at this time.

Only you will be able to decide whether it will "restore" the images to your satisfaction, to what you consider is "without a lot of fiddling", Grace.

Wrong sub-forum incidentally. The Photo Studio forum is here: https://forum.acdsee.com/forum/main-...dio-for-mac-aa

Now wait just a minute. First, that's the Mac forum, and I don't use a Mac (don't know that Grace does either). Second, it hadn't registered that when ACDSee, from one version to the next, changed the name of the product that I use from ACDSee Pro to ACDSee Photo Studio Pro, the name of the forum I'd linked to hadn't followed suit. So I need to go to the forum for ACDSee Photo Studio Pro ... but there is no such forum listed at https://forum.acdsee.com/forum/main-category, and there is no current product called ACDSee Pro, so what else is this forum for?

Feel better for getting that off your chest?

Keith: I'd really appreciate clarification. Do you agree or disagree with my analysis, which challenges your statement that this was the wrong forum for the OP's question? Am I on the wrong forum for ACDSee Photo Studio Professional 2019 for Windows?

That doesn't answer my question. Are there presets that will do a decent job of correcting color (fading, yellowing, redeye, etc.)?

Secondly, I am asking about the capabilities of ACDSee Pro, NOT Photo Studio, so no, the subforum you linked to is NOT the correct one for my question. In addition, as Dennis mentioned, I don't own or use a MAC, and the forum you specified is for MACs, not PCs.

The simple answer is the best results require fiddling. For what the adjustments suggested, histograms will not help.

Take a look at the red-eye correction to address, well, red-eye. Red-eye correction is not 100% automatic as it requires the user to define the location of the eyes.
Try auto white balance feature to correct yellowing.

I would thing the fading is best handled by "dehaze". But there is not an automatic dehaze.

You can create your own preset to handle auto white balance and the dehaze. OF course, the next step would be to go in and touch up with the redeye correction tool.
