  • Save/Import Settings after clean Windows install?

I am curious if the new Import Settings feature could have any applicability when migrating to a new computer or a new Windows install on the same system? More generally, what are the suggested steps to minimize the pain in moving to a new or clean system?

I have just done a clean install of Windows 11 and Pro 2023. I previously had Pro 2022 on Windows 10. Unfortunately I forgot to do any homework on how to help myself before I wiped the system. Now I'm trying to prevent future pain. I was able to rebuild the database from the the images since I do embed metadata. The only "loss" that I have found so far is keywords that were unused. But of course I have to recreate all the other program settings like Metadata presets, Batch settings, etc. which is where the real pain lies.

The Tools/Options/General/Import Options imports the "options" from a previous version of ACDSee, however if you have done a complete clean installation of Windows there are no previous Options to import from.

As well as the above "Import options", ACDSee Ultimage 2023 has individual provision to export/import keywords, presets and actions. I would expect the Pro version to also have import/export of keywords and presets. I don't know about actions, however if you haven't exported those listings and saved the exported files, again there is nothing to import from.

In my own case, over the years, I've taken the time to document all of the changes I've made to ACDSee settings, with screen shots where appropriate, as well as regularly exporting presets and actions. By opening that documentation on my second monitor. I can use it as a reference to relatively simply and quickly set up a new version of ACDSee. In the case of custom Actions, I document all the individual steps. From time to time some actions have needed to be redone to take into account changes in functionality, and having the individual steps documented has really simplified that task. I am a also strong supported of embedding metadata in the images (or in sidecar files).

I was hoping that perhaps there was a corresponding Export Options for the Import Options that I was missing.
Indeed, rigorously documenting my changes as I reconfigure the app is on my to-do list.
