  • How to compare two videos processed from same source

I like to compare two videos processed from same source( for example, checking software stabilizing result). One way to compare them is to have screen showing half from one video, other half from another video. I could achieve this by placing two videos on track1 and trace2 with timestamp aligned. Then apply "slide left" transition on track 2 and make transition time for the whole time length. The work around works. Is there any way to make transition frozen (not moving from right to left during play ) ?

No, a transition is just that, it transitions from a start point to an end point. You can't hold the transition during play at a specific point (for example so half the width of track one is showing on the left, with half of track 2 showing on the right.

You can however without using any transitions show the full track 1 video on the left, and the full track 2 video on the right by setting the display area height the same as the height of the video clips, and the display area width to twice that of the video clips. For example if the video clips are 1920 x 1080, set the display area height to 1080 and the display width to 3840.

Then for track 1, set the position to x=-960, y=0 and for track 2 x=960, y=0.

You can then either play the composition from the timeline or even export it if you wish.

You can also use a similar approach to have the two clips play one above the other if you choose.

Thanks Greyfox for your suggestion. Your suggestion works by place two video side-by-side, so the end result of twice wide as original video. It is Okay when comparing two video.

What I want to do is similar as split focus check in old style camera, half area from one video, other half from another video. it is very useful to check videos stabilizing result.

I can finally achieve such result by placing track 2 on top of track 1, then using "crop" tool to remove half of Track 2 to expose the Track1 underneath.

In above screen shot, Track2 takes only left half, Track 1 take right half. The middle red circle show the difference due to software stabilization.
