  • Tif and ACDC format "Not Recognized"

Started using ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate and have come to discover that all my TIF and ACDC formatted files will not open (all black viewing panel). Error message says that "file format is not recognized".
Oddly, I can open the TIF files in another app just not ACDSee. The ACDSee files, with all their leyers and edits are now not available anywhere.
Any ideas as to what is going on or how to fix it?

    Hi Photogimp,

We would like to have one of such tiff and acdc files to look into this. As the file size of tiff and acdc file could be large, I will send you an email to follow up, giving the steps to upload the sample files to us.

    Regards

Just a thought. Can you go to Tools>Plugi-in settings and check that the pliug-in IDE_ACDStd.api is present, and is ticked?

Anything new regarding this Tiff issue. Having the exact same problem- my Tiffs slowly getting unreadable.

As you can see, the original poster hasn't been back to add to the story, so I don't know whether they sent the images to ACDSee support or not, and if they did whether support were able to resolve their issue.

You could raise your own query with ACDSee support at https://www.acdsee.com/en/support/

For what it is worth, I'm not having any problems with TIFF files in either U2021, or U2022, including 24 and 48 bit TIFF's output from Vuescan, Affinity Photo, U2021 and U2022, and I use TIFF files literally every day.

Perhaps you could enlarge on exactly what your particular problem is, and if possible what steps lead up to it. Does the problem occur with all TIFF's or only some TIFF's, and if the answer to that is only with some TIFF's, then is there something different between those where it occurs and those where it doesn't (for instance the software that produced them, their size, their bit depth, embedded color profile, do they include transparency, do they include layers, are they compressed and if so using what compression format).

It would also perhaps get you a better response if you could post a link to a TIFF file that does exhibit the problem (perhaps use the free WeTransfer service).

Selfish of me to not follow up on this issue here on the forum. Apologies..
I did send the files in question to ACDSee. I found it odd that .tiff files could be opened in other viewers. Support had me try a couple things but when a check of the Quarantined files was made the mystery was solved. All the files were there and retrieved safely. Now they open as normal.
There was no explanation of the reason this happened in the first place. Quarantine seems to occur when a plug-in creates a problem. A check of my plug-ins produced a list that was way over my head, but all were checked on.
Go to Tools / Database / Quarantine Files/. Select the file(s) and click "Remove". This removes the file from the quarantine, and does not delete them.

Guess the issue I'm having or had is a bit different. When I discovered a number of Tiffs missing I tried to access them through folders & got the error. I found if I renamed a missing Tiff access was ok. But if I renamed it back to the original name it would error. I have 622 Tiffs on my system but only 94 were showing up in UIt22. I installed Ult 2021, did a complete catalog & got the same result- only 94 of 622 Tiffs showing up. Long story short, renamed the root folder for my images, created a new DBs for both Ults, pointed both Ult 2021 & 2022 to the renamed directory, did complete catalog and, guess what, ALL was ok with both installs. Wow... I then set both Ults to original DB, renamed root folder back to original name & was back to same problem with both installs- only 94 out of 622 Tiffs cataloged & when I tried to access a missing Tiff through a folder look up got error.

What is really perplexing is I renamed the folder again, did some more troubleshooting & finally turned off the pc & went to bed. Next morning (today) I again renamed the root directory back to its original name and, WHAT, both Ults now found all the Tiffs and appears to be working OK. I did have some quarantined files in my Ult 2022 system but removing them did not change anything. I had no quarantined files in my 2021 install at all.

              Go figure....
