  • Edit Display Layout Keeps Changing

I have been an ACDSee user for a long time and am now on ACDSee Ultimate 2022. I recently switched to an ACDSee365 subscription, but I don't think that has anything to do with my problem which is:

I normally have my system configured so that when I edit an image in Edit mode, the image I'm editing appears in the center panel of the display, with the filters pane showing on the left and the properties pane on the right. That's the way I've used it for years. But recently, sometimes when I browse an image in View mode and then go to edit that image, the whole Edit layout has changed to where the Filter pane shows up centered across the top part of the display, and the image I want to edit is centered in the panel below. The properties pane totally disappears. I have discovered that I can fiddle around with resizing this new edit display layout and restore the image, photo, and properties panes to where I like them, and they will stay that way for a while. But then, unexpectedly, something happens and -- maybe a few days later -- when I switch from "View" to "Edit" the panes have reverted to make the filter pane the center focus, with the image beneath it. I have no idea what I could be doing to cause this. Having to reconfigure my Edit layout manually every few days is getting to be a nuisance. Since I haven't seen anyone else post about this issue, I assume it's something in my setup or something I'm doing inadvertently that's causing the problem. Does anyone have any clue about what could be going on here? I'd appreciate your help! Thanks.

    Can you try this.
In Manage Mode, go to the View pull down menu and select "Reset Layout", then click on Yes in the message dialog that opens.
That will reset the layouts to the default layout (which for Edit is the filter menu on the left, the display pane in the middle and the layers pane on the right) and U2022 will then restart. This reset has been known to fix a number of odd problems.

Please post back and let us know if that fixes the issue.

Greyfox -- Your simple suggestion seems to have fixed a problem that's been bugging me for a while! I have stopped and restarted ACDSee Ultimate several times since applying your fix, and my edit screen layout now seems to behave the way it used to.Thank you!

I have the same problem. The photos are coming in from a scanner. When I go to edit, the tools are down the middle and there's no photo. I can go to View and reset layout and then it's fine. However, I'm having to do that for every photo! Any suggestions? Thanks!

It would appear that something is corrupting the layout settings. Normally when that occurs the View\Reset Layout corrects this issue, but in this case that appears to be only a temporary.solution.

Unfortunately without more information it is difficult to offer constructive suggestions...

Does this only occur with the scanned images, or does it also occur if you select an ex camera JPG in manage mode and then change to Edit Mode.
If it is only with the scanned images, then what is the pixel size (width and height) of the scanned images (due to a restriction in DirectX, Edit has a limitation in both width and height of 16384 px)
What format are the images from the scanner (TIFF, JPG, other), and what bit depth (are they color scans, greyscale or B/W),
What is the uncompressed size of the images (as shown in Manage mode, properties pane under image attributes)

Were the scans done from within ACDSee using File\Import\From Scanner, or done outside of ACDSee using either the scanner manufacture's software, or perhaps Vuescan? If the answer to that is "from within ACDSee", then does the problem still occur if you close ACDSee, do the scan and then open ACDSee and in Manage mode browse to the saved scan file, select it and change to Edit Mode.

What version of Windows are you using, and do you have 3rd party antivirus software installed? If you are using 3rd party antivirus, you could try either white listing ACDSee in it, or temporarily disabling it.
          .
How much memory does your PC have, what version of Ultimate are you using?

If you go to Tools\Options\General and untick "Enable OpenCL image processing, then restart ACDSee, does that make any difference to this issue.

Finally, if none of the above leads towards resolving the issue, you should raise a support request at https://www.acdsee.com/en/support/form/
