  • Won't open Sony RAW files

Just upgraded from Ultimate 2020, which was able to open Sony files. Files are from a Sony a77ii which is supposedly supported, but no thumbnail images at all. Tried to use Develop and Edit modes, but message says "Cannot process selected file." Same thing happens with RAW files from different folders too. Ideas anyone?

Ultimate 2023 shows correct thumbnails and is opening sample RAW .ARW images here in both View, Develop and Edit modes, from Sony A7 Mk2 and also from A7 Mk3, A7 Mk4, and A7R Mk3. It does NOT open the .HIF sample files I have from a Sony A7 Mk4.

    The sample A7 Mk2 .ARW files I have are 6000 x 4000 (24MP), 137.3MB uncompressed.

Can you confirm that the files are .ARW, and also advise where they are located (Local drive, external USB, Network, Camera card etc)
Also check in Tools\Plug In Settings that ID_DCRaw.api is ticked. With that .api selected if you click on Properties it should show as

Success Greyfox, thanks for nudging me in the right direction. I compared my api file with your graphic and noticed there was only one file- IDE_ACDStd.api. Then I looked in the File Association Settings and saw there were no RAW formats available at all. I recalled excluding some features during installation to save drive space and, sure enough, during re-installation, I had excluded the RAW api files. Once I remedied that mistake the Sony arw files had thumbnail images and was able to open them in the Develop and Edit modes. Lesson learned!

By default there should be 21 .api files

Do we know when support for ARW version 4.0 will be available for the Sony ILCE-7RM5 α7R V?

AFAIK ACDSee uses the 3rd party LibRaw library as part of its RAW image support, so I suspect the answer would be some time after LibRaw adds that camera,
The most recent Libraw release was 0.21.1 on January 5th 2023 and that does not yet have the ILCE-7RM5 (A7R V) in its list of supported cameras.

You could maybe try asking Customer Support at https://www.acdsee.com/en/support/form/

For what it is worth, whilst Adobe's DNG converter also doesn't appear to officially support that camera yet (see https://helpx.adobe.com/au/camera-ra...d-cameras.html) however I've been able to batch convert some sample A7R V raw ARW images to DNG using version 15.1.1.1329 and ACDSee can then handle the DNG versions.

Of course Sony's Imaging Edge software can develop the files, and you could output from that to a TIFF or JPG file which would then enable ACDSee to handle it.

Thanks, I'll ask the support. The camera has been on the market for over 4 months already, IMHO, we can expect better support from ACDSee.
As a note to others, IrfanView can view the file.
