I have recently upgraded my printer with the purchase of an Epson ET 8550. My normal procedure is to print from Ultimate 2023. With the new printer installed, I find I am limited to four paper choices - Photo paper, glossy paper, photo paper high gloss, and photo paper semi-gloss. (I do not bother with plain paper, letterhead, etc.) If I use the Epson print layout program, I have a vastly greater range of papers from which to choose, including Matte paper and Velvet Art paper. Is there any way in which the Epson paper choices can be made available to the Ultimate print program? I do find that my prints made at the 'glossy paper' setting are at least equal in quality to those made through the Epson program using the 'Epson high gloss' setting. However, the Epson program is painfully slow, as it seems to take forever to load prints into it's print queue, while Ultimate is far superior in this respect. My immediate problem is that I would like to print on Matte paper through Ultimate, but do not have a paper choice to permit this.

In the case of my ET-3700 printer/scanner that driver is pretty basic, but does have Matte paper in its list, as highlighted in the screen shot below..
That same driver dialog is seen in Windows 10 Pro if I go to Printers and Scanners, select the ET-3700 then "Manage" then printer preferences.
If the Epson driver for your ET-8550 doesn't have matte paper then it is perhaps worth taking up with Epson Support.
I was not aware that Epson's "Print Layout" software (https://epson.com/epson-print-layout) supported the Epson EcoTank range of printers, however it does appear to provide a much better range of printing options. My understanding though is it bypasses any system printer drivers installed, and so probably isn't able to be selected as a system printer from ACDSee.

Thank you, Greyfox, for your explanation. I have looked in the Printers and Scanners info as you suggest. The list there is exactly the same as the list I get in Ultimate, with no 'Matte' choice available. As to your comment re the Epson Print Layout software, I think it may be significant that the ET 8550 (and the ET 8500) are marketed as photo printers, while all their other Eco Tank printers are not. This may account for their appearance in the Print Layout list.
However, to pursue my problem, I will follow your advice and chase an answer through Epson Support. I do appreciate your assistance.

Interesting that matte isn't present in the paper types when the specifications for the ET-8550 show under consumables
Epson Presentation Paper 167gsm Heavy Weight Matte A3 (50pcs) product code S041261
A4 Matte Paper Heavy Weight - 50 sheets (167gsm) product code S041256
A4 Double-Sided Matte Paper - 50 sheets (178gsm) product code S041569
Nice printer though.

Not sure that I can add much to this conversation except that I use an Epson ET-8500 (smaller version). When purchased, I ran the Epson Installer Package and it installed 9 .icc profiles into my Windows 10 folder C:/Windows/System32/spool/drivers/color. Included among the 9 profiles is EPSON ET-8500 L8160 Series Matte.icc I sometimes print from ACDSee Ultimate 2022, or Affinity Photo, or Qimage Ultimate. No matter which I use, Matte always appears. I can only suggest that, if you are running Windows, you check your System32 folder to see if it is listed.
I did go on line to see if there is a way to download EPSON ET-8500 L8160 Series Matte.icc but had no luck. In the process, however, I stumbled upon a discussion in DPReview that you may find very interesting: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4642506
Finally, you might also check the Red River Paper website. I find that I can interchange Epson and RR profiles for the same type of paper. For my use, they appear identical.
