    sounds interesting.
is there an automated process to copy keywords to IPTC, or does every single photo be done manually?
In Ultimate 2021 and 2022 there is a Metadata Presets function in the Properties>Metadata Pane that enables custom presets to be structured to copy ACDSee Metadata fields to applicable IPTC fields and vice versa.

I can't find mention of Metadata Presets in the ACDsee 12 User Guide, however I did find this thread which might help.

what if anything happened to the database. and backups won't work for some reason.
    i would loose all keywords!
would IPTC keywords or embedded keywords be a better choice?
I embed the ACDSee metadata in the images, which allows me to build a new database by Cataloging the images. Has saved the day on a number of occasions.

I also copy ACDSee metadata fields to relevant IPTC fields using a metadata preset. (IPTC is automatically written into the files where the format supports IPTC).
That provides some insurance against the loss of the ACDSee metadata should an image be processed in a 3rd party app that doesn't respect (strips) the xmp metadata, but retains the IPTC metadata, and I have another metadata preset to copy the IPTC fields to the relevant ACDSee fields

    Hello.

you're right, my information was not complete.
The images are located on PC1, on a local drive.
The keywords are ACDSee keywords, not IPTC keywords and not embedded.
I already did Tools>Database>Catalog files, but without succes.

last night i suddenly had a thought.
Volume ID of the drive has to be the same as before, otherwise ACDSee will get confused.
i did change volume ID to the correct ID, but i decided to check again.
And to my suprise volume ID had not change and was still on the old ID....
Turned out i överlooked the "access denied" warning...
i changed volume ID to the correct ID and behold, the keywords worked.!!
What a simple solution to such a big problem....

    So, problem solved,,,,,,,,,

    But this brings questions.
what if anything happened to the database. and backups won't work for some reason.

    you opinion please.

There are a couple of missing pieces to the puzzle.
    (a) Where are the images located, a local drive on one of the PC's, an USB external drive, a NAS drive, somewhere else?.
    (b) Are the keywords you refer to ACDSee keywords or IPTC keywords or both, and are the ACDSee keywords embedded in the images.

Based on what is in your post, I would try a Tools>Database>Catalog files from the ACDSee that is on the rebuilt PC. Initially perhaps just select one or two folders that have images in them, and see whether that helps.

    Keywords disappeared, search still working

    Hi everyone.

I have used ACDsee for many years now.
I use ACDsee Photo Manager 12.0 build 344.
I know it is an old version, but it has never failed me and I do not have any further needs.
At the moment I organize over 51.000 photos in ACDsee.
    All photos have keywords assigned.
Backups of the database are made automatically, using Syncback.
The database is also automatically copied to a second pc, with the same ACDsee version installed.

So I organize on PC1, the database is copied automatically to PC2, and can be used to search for keywords to find a photo easily.
The database is never copied from PC2 to PC1.
    This system has never failed.
PC1 and PC2 use to run on Win 7 ultimate, and are now running Win 10 pro.

Recently PC1 had died on me, well **************** happens.
So I build a new PC1, installed everything, including that same old trustworthy ACDsee 12.
Suddenly I have encountered a weird database problem.
Although I told ACDsee where to find the database, the keywords are not displayed when I select a photo.
Weirdly though, the search option works.
I can search a keyword and the photo is found, so the database works.
When a photo has been found, keywords are displayed.

So a selected photo does not display keywords.
But if the same photo is found through Search, keywords are displayed.

I can also add keywords, those keywords stay visible.
But if the database is copied to PC2, all existing keywords are displayed, but not the new ones.

Both PC1 and PC2 were reinstalled a couple of times.
Specially PC1, through the years several different pc’s were used.
A reinstall or new install has never been a problem.

I also have an old backup of the database, from February 2021.
This database has the same result on PC1, keywords are not displayed, but the search function works.
If I copy the database to PC2, the keywords are displayed.

So my problem is not a database problem.
But what is the problem here??

    Is there something I’ve overlooked?
    Some setting?
Working...
