I use ACDSee for my scrapbooking organization. I haven't used it for a long time and just downloaded the new Home version. Even though I'm looking thru how to use and help I still can't figure out how to make a Folder (under Properties or Keywords) and then start keywording each of my items. Can anyone help me?

With an image or images selected, you can create new keywords in the Properties pane, Organize tab. (Right click/New Keyword)
You can assign a keyword from the keywords list in the Organize tab to a selected image or images by ticking the keyword box (there are other ways to assign keywords as well).
You can't assign a keyword to a folder. If you try you will see a message that indicates the keyword will be assigned to all images in that folder (but not the folder itself).
With scrapbooking assets, it might also be worth considering the use of Categories to group similar types.
Perhaps the video tutorials at https://www.acdsee.com/en/video-tutorials/#single/0 would help.Last edited by Greyfox; 01-01-2023, 01:47 PM.

This is true for the catalog pane. However in the properties organize pane you indeed can assign keywords (and other AC meta data) to a folder. This can even be embedded into a .xmp file:
1. In manage mode, select a folder
2. In the Properties Pane, Organize Tab, click on the check box to the left of a user defined keyword.
3, This message appears
4. Click on OK
It does indeed assign the keyword to all of the items IN the folder, but NOT the folder itself, and with the folder selected the tick no longer appears against that keyword..
So what are you doing that is different to the above?

I my sample above, like you I select a folder in manage mode, but type the keyword in the "properties-organize" tab.
In this sample a folder is selected in manage mode.
1. Type a new or existing! keyword to assign it to the folder itself. The meta data gets stored in the DB and may be embedded into a .xmp file with the name of the folder.
2. When unchecking the assigned keyword a dialogue appears and offers to assign the keyword (no to remove the assignment!). Clicking "Yes" will indeed remove the assignment.
3. When check marking this unassigned keyword the same dialogue appears and offers to assign the keyword to all items within the folder. However, the blue check mark never appears and it remains unclear if all items in the folder are assigned to the keyword or not.
I'm not sure which behaviour is best, but I think it's nice have both options. However the GUI could be improved.
BTW. These features are very old.

Thank you.
Indeed that does work. In all the years I've been using ACDSee I've not used that method with folders, and I can't remember it being in the manual (will have a look again later).
It's interesting that one can use that method to assign an existing keyword to a folder, but it can't be assigned from the listing in the Organize pane itself.
That opens up some interesting possibilities for me.
