  • Font smoothing issues in Photo Editor 10

    Hello,
I have Windows 7 with "Smooth edges of screen fonts" checkbox enabled.
I'm trying to add text to an image (Filter->Add->Text) in Photo Editor 10, but found font smoothing issues:
    1) When I add white text on a black background, the font smoothing works well.
But when I add black text on a white background, the font smoothing doesn't work.
Нow to enable font smoothing for any color combinations in Photo Editor 10?

    2) I tried to disable "Smooth edges of screen fonts" in Windows 7, but nothing changed in Photo Editor 10 - white text on a black background is still anti-aliased.
Нow to completely turn off font smoothing in Photo Editor 10?

    3) When I add white text on a white background, the outline of the text becomes visible.
    How to fix it?

I don't believe Windows "Smooth edges of screen fonts" has any effect on text added via the text tool in ACDSee, but then I haven't had Windows 7 for quite some time, and I also don't have Photo Editor 10. "Smooth edges of screen fonts" in Windows 10 Pro certainly is not affecting text added by the text tool in ACDSee Ultimate 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Here is what it looks like in U2023 (I've used a 1280 x 720 canvas and 100% zoom to match what what you have shown in your post)

Remember that this is a raster or bitmap image. If I increase the zoom to 2000, and look at the sloped edges of the "x" then as expected the steps are quite visible for both white on black and black on white, though on my monitor the intermediate greys don't show up quite as much on the black background as they do on the white background (or that may just be the way my eyes see it).

Also using U2023 on Windows 10 Pro, white text on a white background does NOT have any outline.

I can get the outline you show in your post by applying an effect to the text layer (fx) Outline, thickness 1, blur 0, color black). I don't know whether that (or a similar effect) was an option in the old 2017 Photo Editor 10 software, but might be worth checking that isn't the cause.
